Named after Claudius Victor Boughton, an American hero of the War of 1812, the Town of Victor contains a village, also called Victor.
Snuggled up to Canandaigua Lake, Victor is the on or near the site of a Seneca Nation village, Ganondagan. The village was abandoned after being attacked by French invaders from Canada. In 2015, Ganondagan State Historic Site opened a museum and cultural center on their grounds to teach the art and history of the lost village.
